There are two primary Greek words that describe Scripture which are translated “word” in the New Testament.

1) Logos-refers principally to the total inspired Word of God and to Jesus, who is the living Word.

Ex. John 1:1; John 1:14; Luke 8:11; Phil. 216; Heb. 4:12

“Every Word of God is inspired, and all scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction and for instruction in righteousness.” (II Tim. 3:16)

2) Rhema, which refers to the spoken word or “utterance” by God through His Word or men and women of God being led by the Holy Spirit. Rhema is a verse or portion of a scripture that the Holy Spirit brings to our attention for a current situation or need for direction.

Jesus commissioned the believer in Mark 16:15, “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” There are many methods, devices, and ways to share the good news of Jesus Christ, to offer hope to the hopeless, and to shine the light of God’s love into the dark places. We are commanded to let all men know that “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
